The development project for a new urban hub in Guercif, intended for the eradication of shanty towns and substandard housing in the city, will require a total amount of 841 million DH, a statement from the province indicates.
This new urban hub, which will cover 100 hectares, will allow for the rehousing of more than 7,303 households residing in the two large shanty town complexes of the Ghiatta and Hamria districts, the same source specifies.
The progress of the equipment works for the Ghiatta subdivision (first phase), supervised by the governor of the province, Atmane Souali, has reached 20%.
These equipment works, which started on October 17, 2011, and will last 36 months, will allow for the rehousing of 2,222 households residing in the substandard Ghiatta district.
As for the completion rate of the equipment works (second phase) of the Hamria subdivision, with an area of 177 hectares and 25 ares, it has reached 5%, the statement adds.
These works, which will span 48 months, will allow for the rehousing of some 5,081 households living in the substandard Hamria district.
The statement recalls the creation, in 2010, of the "Al Houria" housing subdivision project with an area of 21 hectares to rehouse, in two phases, the inhabitants of the shacks of the informal Douar "Allayl".
The equipment works for the first phase of the "Al Houria" housing subdivision, completed in September 2010, allowed for the rehousing of 362 households.
The Solidarity Fund for Housing (FSH) will contribute 155 million DH to this grandiose project aimed at absorbing clandestine housing and providing dignified and decent housing to the underprivileged segments of the population.
