The city of Guelmim had an appointment with the laying of the first stone for the construction of the Oasis d'Or project, which will have positive effects on the region's economy and will constitute a strong added value in terms of promoting the local tourist product. The kick-off for the construction work on this flagship project for the Guelmim-Smara region was given last Friday by the new Wali of the region, Omar Elhadrami, accompanied by an official delegation composed of elected officials and heads of external services. This project, which chose the rural commune of Abayno as its site against a total investment of 130 million dirhams, is expected to generate more than 120 direct jobs and 500 indirect jobs. The duration of the work is 4 years. This project consists of two parts: the first concerns a 4-star hotel unit that extends over 18 hectares, including 120 rooms and 14 luxurious suites, a swimming pool, parking, garden and other facilities. The second part of this project consists of a residential programme, which concerns 248 villa lots with an area of 154 to 500 square metres, as well as 100 apartments, in addition to a shopping centre on 15 thousand square metres. This project will participate in accelerating the pace of development of the entire region on the economic and social levels, and will also allow for the promotion of the natural, cultural and civilisational potential of Guelmim. The Oasis d'Or should strengthen the region's resources and its accommodation capacity, as well as the promotion of its product, through activities of a local nature (sport, entertainment, desert). As a reminder, this region was endowed last September, in the presence of the Minister of Tourism, Lahcen Haddad, with a programme contract for the development of the tourism sector, by virtue of which 57 projects will be launched: three structuring projects and 54 complementary projects for a total investment of more than 24.16 billion dirhams (MMDH). These projects are distributed between the provinces of Guelmim, with 19 projects with a total value of approximately 20.89 MMDH, Tata (16 projects/63.8 MDH), Tan Tan (3.08 MMDH) and Assa Zag (6 projects/22.7 MDH). Within the framework of the structuring projects, it was planned to develop two seaside resorts at Plage Blanche, in two phases, and Oued Chbika, for an investment of 23 MMDH. In parallel, 54 complementary projects will be carried out for a total sum of 1.16 billion DH, within the framework of 4 tourism programmes concerning the aspects of ecology and sustainable development (28 projects), heritage and cultural legacy (14 projects), entertainment and sports activities (5 projects) and high added value tourism products (4 projects).
