During a meeting held recently, the steering committee of the Southern Oases Programme (POS) presented the 2011 balance sheet and the 2012 action plan for this programme. Launched in June 2006, it has been 77% completed at a cost of more than 50.458 million DH, according to the committee.

In a speech delivered on the occasion of this meeting, the Director General of the Agency for the Promotion and Economic and Social Development of the Southern Provinces, Ahmed Hajji, indicated that the 2012 action plan provides for the implementation of 218 projects for an investment of approximately 65.5 million DH, adding that the POS, which is part of a partnership between the UNDP, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Council of the Guelmim-Smara region, aims to achieve sustainable territorial development in the provinces of Assa-Zag, Guelmim, Tata, Tan Tan, and Tarfaya.

“This programme, which required an investment of approximately 34 million dollars, currently targets 54 communities, which has allowed it, over a period of six years, to become one of the main development mechanisms in this region.”
