Optimisation of rainwater management

Optimisation of rainwater management

The liquid sanitation system of the city of Essaouira has been strengthened in order to ensure optimal management of rainwater, according to the National Office of Electricity and Potable Water (ONEE). Several interventions have been initiated at the level of Essaouira, notably the deployment of towable pumping stations in certain key points such as the Sidi Mohammed Benabdellah provincial hospital, the industrial district and the main arteries of the city, in addition to the mobilisation of hydro-cleaning trucks to clear the pipes, indicated to MAP the head of the joint agency of the ONEE-water branch in Essaouira, Ali Harmouch. These pieces of equipment strengthen the existing liquid sanitation network, composed, in particular, of 160 km of pipes, six lifting stations, three rainwater culverts as well as a treatment plant, he made known, adding that this system is operating at 100% of its capacity on the occasion of the exceptional rainfall that the city is experiencing. Essaouira is located on a flat area that does not favour the flow of rainwater, which leads to the formation of puddles in certain neighbourhoods of the city.
