Assault on a French tourist

Assault on a French tourist

Security is starting to pose a problem in the old Medina of Essaouira, which contains the essence of the city's tourism product. Only a few weeks after the assault on an English tourist, another tourist, French this time, has just been attacked in the Chbanat district.

Aged 75, she was burgled by a young man who snatched her handbag containing 100 euros and identity documents. The suspect was identified and arrested in a state of drunkenness at Bab Marrakech in possession of 130 euros. He confessed to having committed seven other assaults while also acknowledging his latest offence. The septuagenarian was able to recover her money and the items that had been stolen from her.

Furthermore, the judicial police of Essaouira have just made a major catch in the fight against prostitution, with the arrest of 13 people in the act of procuring and adultery.

Following a complaint filed by the residents of the Al Amal housing estate, elements of the judicial police stormed an apartment that was housing these activities.

The operation led to the arrest of four men and eight women, including two married women.

The owner of the house was apprehended and accused of procuring and preparing premises for prostitution, while one of the arrested women was prosecuted by her husband for adultery and prostitution.
