The examination of the possibilities for an effective integration of the Kalâat Sraghna region into the project of the regional contract-programme of the "Vision 2020" for tourism was at the centre of a meeting of tourism professionals of the region, held Thursday in Kalâat Sraghna.

During this meeting, chaired by the governor of the province of Kalâat Sraghna, Mohammed Najib Bencheikh, the main lines of this project were presented by Tariq Seddik, from the Moroccan Society of Tourism Engineering, who notably emphasised the action plan proposed for the region, which is articulated around the valorisation of natural resources, respect for local social and cultural authenticity, and the creation of an inn and a centre for the valorisation of local products to serve as an exhibition and marketing space for these products. For his part, Mr. Bencheikh indicated that the province, adjacent to the ochre city, which constitutes the largest tourist hub in Morocco, possesses natural and cultural potentials that need to be valorised in order to make the region a space for rural tourism par excellence, stressing that local authorities are multiplying efforts in this direction.

Vision 2020, presented last November 30 in Marrakech before H.M. King Mohammed VI, sets as an objective to double the size of the tourism sector to raise Morocco among the top 20 global tourist destinations. It provides for the creation of eight new tourist destinations and 200,000 new beds.
