Dakhla hoists the "Blue Flag" on Oum Labouir beach

Oum Labouir beach in Dakhla, included in the national "Clean Beaches" programme, has obtained the international "Blue Flag" label this summer for the fourth consecutive year.

Lamine Benomar, Wali of the Oued Eddahab-Lagouira region, Governor of the province of Oued Eddahab, accompanied by Sidi Sloh El Joumani, President of the Dakhla Municipal Council, presided over the ceremony of hoisting the "Blue Flag" which took place on Saturday at Oum Labouir beach.

The international "Blue Flag" label of the "Clean Beaches" programme, awarded by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, chaired by H.R.H. Princess Lalla Hasnaa, rewards the efforts made by local and provincial authorities in partnership with several economic operators to contribute to the preservation of the quality of bathing water.

Oum Labouir beach, which has obtained the label for the fourth consecutive year, complies with several standards, notably on environmental education, bathing water quality, health, and safety.

The distinction rewards the efforts made by local authorities and several actors acting in favour of the preservation of the quality of bathing water and the environmental quality of the beach.

On the occasion, the President of the Municipal Council observed that the awarding of the "Blue Flag" label coincides, this year, with the celebration by the Moroccan people, on 14 August of each year, of the 36th anniversary of the return of the Oued Eddahab province to the motherland, a landmark stage in the process of completing the territorial integrity of the Kingdom.

Indicating that the granting of the "Blue Flag" label to Oum Labouir beach was done on the basis of compliance with four families of criteria, namely the quality of bathing water, information, awareness, environmental education, hygiene, safety, development, and management, he specified that the aforementioned criteria are checked throughout the season by a national committee led by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.
