Fire at the N'Teirift fishing village in Dakhla

The inhabitants of the N'Teirift fishing village, 60 km north of Dakhla, woke up this Thursday, 27 March, to orders given here and there by members of the Civil Protection, who came to control the fire and limit the very significant damage caused by the blaze that broke out around 4 a.m. Informed, the authorities, led by the Wali of the region, went to the scene of the disaster where 300 shacks had been ravaged by the fire. Contacted by Libé, the Royal Gendarmerie services confirmed that an investigation has been opened to determine the causes of this tragedy. Although a large number of permanent houses have been built in this area, artisanal fishermen continue to live in makeshift shacks without any safety measures. This is the case in several fishing barracks in the vicinity of Dakhla where fires leading to significant material damage and sometimes victims have become commonplace. This situation raises the question of the fishing villages built along the coast, which have cost the State budget, while remaining uninhabited to this day.
