Hassani culture in the spotlight

The city of Dakhla hosted the 3rd edition of the Regional Book Fair from 29 November to 7 December. Organised by the regional directorate of culture with the support of the book directorate and in collaboration with the Wilaya of the Oued-Eddahab Lagouira region, this event was an opportunity to shed light on the importance of books and reading and to highlight the cultural richness and diversity of the region.

According to the organisers, the fair aims to promote reading, encourage the dissemination of knowledge, and allow visitors to learn about the latest publications, in addition to offering them the opportunity to meet local writers and authors. It was an occasion to celebrate Hassani books through the presentation of new publications, the organisation of literary meetings, and the presentation of artistic performances. It also constituted a strong added value to the cultural and artistic landscape in this region, which is rich in its experience in organising various events reflecting its momentum and its dynamic of integrated development.

The fair, held at Hassan II Square, was composed of several stands dedicated to publications from publishing houses and public establishments, with nearly 20,000 works devoted to administration, computing, religion, local culture, politics, gastronomy, and leisure, as well as dictionaries and children's tales.

This event, held under the theme "Consecrating reading as a foundation for sustainable development", also saw the organisation of a round table on the theme: "The problematic of Hassani culture", artistic and literary evenings, various exhibitions, and book signing ceremonies. Young and old were associated with this edition through various scheduled activities responding to their concerns and needs in cultural matters. The workshops organised on the sidelines of this fair discussed issues concerning book publishing, its dissemination, and the solutions or proposals that can contribute to solving the problem of reading, as well as an exhibition of plastic arts. This edition, which saw the participation of several publishing houses, cultural institutes, cultural associations, and bookstores, also made it possible to sign several works dealing with the culture of the Moroccan Sahara.
