The 5th citizenship cycling caravan, which was launched on 2 May 2013 in Tangier under the slogan "My homeland from Tangier to Lagouira", is currently continuing its journey in the Southern provinces.
Arriving last Monday in Boujdour, the caravan was welcomed by an official delegation chaired by Larbi Touijer, governor of the Boujdour province, civil personalities as well as military and local actors, who praised this initiative of great patriotic scope which consists of setting in motion a multi-activity unit aimed at making known the dynamic of economic, cultural, artistic and sporting development in the Southern regions of the Kingdom, and defending the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Morocco.
According to Rachid Yassini, director of the 5th edition of the citizenship cycling caravan, this edition launched in Tangier for the Southern provinces aims to consecrate the culture of civism, the sense of patriotism and to promote participatory culture among young people and to encourage domestic tourism. And to add that this initiative also aims to consolidate the ties of affection and citizenship between the south and the north of Morocco and also contribute to highlighting the historical importance of the autonomy option as a unique and realistic solution to the Sahara question, within the framework of advanced regionalisation.
This event organised by the National Alliance of Merchants of Morocco sees the participation of 17 cyclists representing different regions of Morocco and who are all driven by the desire to promote the values of citizenship and patriotism and defend the territorial integrity of Morocco in addition to a technical team of five people, who plan to reach Lagouira on 27 May.
To date, the caravan has travelled through the cities of Larache, Kénitra, Rabat, Casablanca, El Jadida, Safi, Essaouira, Agadir, Tiznit, Guelmim, Tan Tan and Laâyoune. A journey during which a warm welcome was reserved for it.
During their journey, the participants in this initiative will collect the signatures of citizens from the different regions travelled through supporting the autonomy project in the Southern provinces of Morocco. A golden book gathering these signatures will be handed over to the concerned UN organisations.
