A twinning agreement was signed on Tuesday by Abdelaziz Abba, president of the municipal council of Boujdour, known as the Flower of the Sea, and Antonio Giorgi, mayor of the Italian town of Lozio (Brescia province, north). This agreement aims to strengthen cooperation and the exchange of experiences and expertise in the economic, cultural, and tourism fields between the two cities and seeks to encourage cultural exchange, hold meetings, and share expertise and knowledge inherent to the fields of infrastructure, architectural and urban planning, education, health, housing, and sustainable development.

This agreement provides for the implementation of concrete projects in a spirit of solidarity, rapprochement, openness, and friendship.

"This twinning comes in the wake of the efforts made by Moroccans residing in Italy to further promote rapprochement between the two peoples, and I would like to thank the local authorities, the notables, the chioukh, and the local councillors for the warmth of the welcome we received," noted Mr. Giorgi.

While according to Abdelaziz Abba, this agreement will allow Boujdour to take advantage of the Italian town's experience in the tourism and cultural fields, noting that in this regard, a delegation from the town will soon pay a visit to Lozio.

The delegation also decided to grant "Honoris causa" nationality to the Sahrawi Moroccan activist, Mustafa Salma Ould Sidi Mouloud, who was expelled from the Tindouf camps after announcing his support for the autonomy initiative.

The Italian delegation's stay in Boujdour was also an opportunity for its members to learn about the development projects undertaken in the town, particularly regarding human development, job creation, and infrastructure in the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region since the recovery of the Southern provinces by the Kingdom. There was also discussion of the major structural projects that contribute greatly to improving the living conditions of the region's population.

This delegation travelled to Laâyoune on Wednesday, where it held a series of meetings with public and private officials and actors, and examined the investment opportunities that this region provides.
