Important seizure of spoiled meat in Berrechid

589 kilos of meat suspected of being spoiled were seized in a butcher's shop in Berrechid. The local authorities carried out a raid on a butcher's shop on Saturday, 12 April. They discovered this quantity of spoiled meat which was seized and destroyed that same Saturday, local sources indicate. Veterinary service agents proceeded to seize this quantity in the presence of members of the Berrechid Consumer Protection Association. According to the president of this Association, Mohamed Aboulfida, the regional services of the ONSSA are currently at work to draw up a report whose results should be announced shortly. For now, he stressed, "the reasons for this seizure are not yet clear to us. While the owner of the butcher's shop persists in rejecting the accusations of the hygiene services. The latter, for their part, maintain that this meat is unfit for consumption and could constitute a danger to the health of citizens. He also added that "these same services say they have noted that this meat was spoiled and could not be consumed". But, as far as we are concerned, "when we arrived on the scene, after having been informed by the security services, we saw a large quantity of meat thrown on the ground. There was also a car whose windows were broken. The authorities claim that an accident took place here and that this car hit the front of the butcher's shop. They believe that the meat contained broken glass and therefore constitutes a danger to the health of consumers". And the president of the Consumer Protection Association in Berrechid, Mohamed Aboulfida, continued: "We are waiting for the results of the ONSSA to express ourselves on this seizure. But I must point out that the hygiene inspectors of Berrechid only carry out control visits to shops and butcher's shops very rarely. Unannounced visits should normally be carried out in butcher's shops and shops, because it is a matter of the health safety of citizens. However, there are many in Berrechid who do not respect hygiene rules".
