A whale was stranded on Sunday on a beach in Sidi R'bate in the province of Chtouka Ait-Baha.
The inhabitants of the village were surprised by the mammal of nearly 16 tonnes that came to be stranded on the beach. It was breathing and moving its tail, according to witnesses.
Despite attempts by volunteers to put it back into the water, the rorqual-type mammal, about 17 m long, could not be saved.
Representatives of the maritime fishing delegation and the National Institute for Fisheries Research travelled to the site to try to determine the causes that led to the whale's stranding.
