Ambassadors visit the Aïn Béni Mathar thermo-solar power plant

Ambassadors accredited to Rabat visited, on Sunday, at the end of a tour in the south of the Oriental region, the integrated combined cycle thermo-solar power plant of Aïn Béni Mathar, in the province of Jérada.

The diplomats from about fifteen countries in Africa, Europe, Asia and Latin America followed on this occasion explanations on this project, inaugurated in May 2010 by HM King Mohammed VI and which is part of the integrated development programme of the Oriental region.

At the end of this visit, several diplomats said they were impressed by the efforts made by Morocco in the field of renewable energies and by the innovative nature of this project with a strong environmental dimension. They also highlighted the experience acquired by Morocco in this field.

"The visit to the Aïn Béni Mathar thermo-solar power plant allowed us to see for ourselves the important performance of the Kingdom in terms of renewable energies," declared the Ambassador of Senegal to Morocco, Amadou Habibou Ndiaye, to the MAP.

And to note that the synthesis between fossil energies and renewable energies achieved at this power plant is particularly remarkable, adding that this project also demonstrates the extraordinary capacity of the human resources of this country.

Morocco is in the phase of becoming a potential supplier of renewable energies for Europe but also for the countries of the South who are interested in the Kingdom's experience in this field.

The integrated combined cycle thermo-solar power plant of Aïn Béni Mathar is part of the national strategy for the development of renewable energies that are respectful of the environment and the development of energy resources for the production of electricity.

The total power of this power plant, located on a total area of 160 hectares and having required a total investment of 4.6 billion dirhams, is 472MW, including 20 MW from the solar component capable of generating an average annual output of 3,538 GW/h.
