The commune of Zoumi in the province of Ouezzane recently hosted a communication meeting on the means of integrating the disability dimension into the commune's dialogue and consultation mechanisms and its action plan.
This meeting, organised as part of a partnership between the White Dove association for people with disabilities in Morocco, the commune of Zoumi, and the Network of associations working in the field of disability in northern Morocco, was marked by the presentation of practical visions regarding integrated development with a view to promoting the integration of the disability dimension into the dialogue and consultation mechanisms of local authorities, so as to strengthen the access of people with specific needs to municipal services.
According to a statement from the organisers, this event was marked by the presentation of constitutional and legislative frameworks relating to people with specific needs and the provisions of the International Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, ratified by Morocco on 8 April 2009, as well as national instruments for combating discrimination in all its forms. On this occasion, the speakers examined the mechanisms guaranteeing the participation of citizens and civil society in the development, monitoring, and evaluation of public policies in general and programmes intended for people with disabilities in particular.
