A meeting of the regional committee for monitoring the implementation of agreements related to the restructuring and development of the Oukaimeden station was held on Friday at the headquarters of the Al Haouz Province, with the aim of bringing the project to fruition.
The meeting was chaired by the Governor of Al Haouz Province, Rachid Benchikhi, where the strategic axes for rehabilitating and developing the area were reviewed, including modernizing road routes and improving the quality of services and activities offered at the station.
Progress on the expansion and strengthening works of Regional Road 2030, which connects Aghbalou and Oukaimeden, and Regional Road 2017 between Ourika and Regional Road 2030, was reviewed. The projects also included the development of two bicycle lanes over 11 km, and the development of the Regional Road 2030 junction.
All these works are expected to be completed by June 2025, with a budget of 148.34 million dirhams within the framework of a partnership agreement between the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Equipment and Transport, the Moroccan Society of Tourism Engineering, and the Marrakech-Safi Regional Council.
During the meeting, the Oukaimeden station liquidation project was discussed, where the Director General of the Moroccan Society of Tourism Engineering gave a presentation covering the axes of rehabilitating the Oukaimeden ski resort according to international standards.
The project includes two phases, with a total budget of 230 million dirhams. The first phase includes changing the station's management model, improving the technical performance of equipment and renewing facilities, implementing maintenance work, and installing safety equipment to face the risk of snowfall. The second phase includes developing new leisure activities, building a panoramic restaurant at the highest peak of Mount Oukaimeden, and creating advanced cabins to provide distinguished tourism services.
Regional and provincial directors of relevant government sectors, a representative of the Marrakech-Safi region, and the President of the Al Haouz Provincial Council participated in the meeting, where joint coordination was emphasized to complete the project within the specified deadlines and achieve the goals of sustainable tourism development in the region.
