A new royal impetus for sustainable human development

A new royal impetus for sustainable human development

With a strong ecological impact, this project will contribute to the protection of citizens' health, the preservation of the environment and the socio-economic development of the city, insofar as it provides the inhabitants with a pleasant living environment, puts an end to the risks of contamination that threatened the drinking water network and bathing waters, as well as the problem of flooding due to rainwater. With a total cost of 410 million dirhams, this important project consisted of the construction of a wastewater treatment plant, inaugurated on this occasion by the Sovereign, of the aerated lagoon type with a treatment capacity of 20,400 m3 per day, meeting the needs of the population of the city of Saïdia and its tourist resort. It also involved the laying of 96 kilometres of pipes for the collection of wastewater and seven kilometres for the collection of rainwater, the transfer of wastewater from the city of Saïdia and its tourist resort to the treatment plant, the construction of five pumping stations and 4,500 individual connections. Upgrading work on the liquid sanitation network of the Saïdia resort was also undertaken by the Saïdia Tourist Resort Development Company, which renewed 13 kilometres of pipes. In addition, relining work on 2.4 kilometres of collectors is on the programme and should begin next September. The result of a partnership between the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water, the National Liquid Sanitation Programme, the municipality of Saïdia and the Saïdia Tourist Resort Development Company, this structuring project confirms the particular interest that H.M. the King, may God assist Him, takes in environmental issues and His permanent desire to promote the living conditions of citizens.
