Construction of 300 km of rural roads

Construction of 300 km of rural roads

During his speech to the members of the provincial council, the provincial director of the Ministry of Equipment and Transport, Abdesselam Amrani, was more than explicit when he addressed, in detail, the national rural roads programme, the achievements, and the prospects for the year 2012. The major operations to open rural roads meet the needs of more than 70,000 inhabitants and will allow for the opening up of rural centres and douars in the province of Tetouan.

With the opening of rural roads, the Tetouan Directorate of Equipment and Transport is participating directly in the rise and socio-economic development of the various strata of the population in this part of the Kingdom. Between 2005 and 2012, there were 21 links spread over 20 rural communes in the province, with the inhabitants having experienced bad travel and communication experiences before the opening of these roads. Thus, the rural population service rate increased from 30% in 2005 to 73% in 2012. The 205 kilometres of rural roads are considered an added value for the well-being of the population, knowing that the financial package of 882 million dirhams was realised as follows: 85% of the budget was granted by the State and 15% financed by the Tangier-Tetouan region and the rural communes of the province of Tetouan.

To detail this important programme of rural or secondary roads, we must cite the Bghaghza and Beni Idder link, 18.4 km long, with an amount of 21 million dirhams, and access to the douar Amtel (rural commune of Zinat) over 5.5 km with an amount of 13.7 million dirhams... Both of these operations have already been completed. As for the operations currently under construction, we must recall the link between Bghaghza and Spirada (rural commune of Aïn Lahcen) with 24.2 km for an amount of 67.4 million dirhams. The progress of this operation is estimated at 75% and completion is scheduled for the end of next January. In the rural commune of Oulad Mansour, the work relating to access to the douar Ijdaïden and Ihramen over 2.7 km is progressing well, thanks to a budget of 10.8 million dirhams, while the completion of this access is scheduled for the end of next January.

Considered as being in the process of starting work, nine road links of 63 km will be built thanks to a budget of 238 million dirhams and will affect a batch of important links, access points, and other major works that the inhabitants of these communes hope to see realised.
