The Oued-Eddahab-Lagouira region hosted the 3rd edition of the "Tiris" Festival from 14 to 16 December under the theme "Hassani culture at the service of sustainable development".
Organised under the High Patronage of His Majesty the King by the Tiris Association in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and local authorities, this festival, essentially dedicated to the celebration of local heritage as an integral part of Moroccan culture, aims in particular to contribute to the preservation of authentic Hassani cultural heritage, considered one of the components of national identity and one of the tributaries of Moroccan culture, and to pay tribute to nomadic culture by understanding the various aspects of the daily life of the Sahara population.
Over three days, this festival, which saw the participation of 12 musical troupes from the southern provinces as well as 28 local poets, was able to transform the peaceful communal centre of Aousserd into a true platform for artistic and cultural animation and allowed visitors to the Oued Eddahab-Lagouira region to learn about local potential as well as projects realised within the framework of the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH) in this southern province of the Kingdom, as well as the major projects underway in this region.
Several activities were scheduled during this festival, including camel races, an exhibition on INDH projects, livestock farming in the region, a space dedicated to popular tales, in addition to artistic evenings animated by Hassani music troupes. Moreover, the festival gives pride of place to Hassani poetry, which will be recited by a galaxy of poets from the region.
Traditional tents were also set up and housed an exhibition of local handicraft products, notably traditional clothing, historical manuscripts and photos, wooden objects, materials, utensils, and other tools essential in the life of the inhabitants of the South, as well as forms of decoration reflecting the richness of the customs and local artisanal heritage.
The opening ceremony of this festival was characterised by the salute to the national flag, followed by music performances to the rhythms of Hassani dances and songs and a camel parade in the presence of Hamid Chabar, the Wali of the Oued Eddahab-Lagouira region, tribal chiefs, heads of external services, and members of civil society.
