Tiznit celebrates Amazigh New Year

Tiznit celebrates Amazigh New Year

The city of Tiznit will host from January 11th to 14th, the cultural event “Tiflwine” dedicated to the celebration of Amazigh New Year 2975.
Initiated by the Municipality of Tiznit, in collaboration with the Provincial Council and civil society, this celebration is in line with the Royal decision announced by HM King Mohammed VI, to establish January 14th, corresponding to the first day of the Amazigh year, as an official public holiday in Morocco, according to a statement from the organisers.
Organised under the theme “The land and identity in celebration”, this event offers a series of activities illustrating the cultural diversity of Tiznit, such as tasting areas presenting traditional dishes related to “Iẓ n IYar”, as well as the celebration of “Al-Ma’ruf” which reflects the values of social solidarity.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to attend artistic performances, such as “Ahwash” dances and collective arts representing different regions.
On the agenda for this edition are also spiritual events including Sufi evenings, Quranic recitations, and prophetic praises, as well as reading and calligraphy workshops, in addition to an exhibition of local jewellery.
According to the organisers, this cultural event aims to strengthen Amazigh culture, a pillar of Moroccan identity, and to promote the knowledge economy and the heritage of Tiznit, while highlighting traditional crafts and local products, as well as various artistic expressions.
It also aims to promote Amazigh heritage and civilisation, artistic practices, and creative talents, through various activities spread across forty distinct spaces along the “Tiflwine” route.
