14,000 people brought to justice in Tetouan

14,000 individuals prosecuted for various offences were brought to justice in 2012 and early 2013 in Tetouan, according to a report from the judicial police services of the prefecture of Tetouan.

During the various operations carried out by these services, some 13,817 people were brought to justice for their alleged involvement in various offences or crimes, according to the same source which specifies that the accused were apprehended for various crimes including theft, drug trafficking, kidnapping, abandonment of family, debauchery, or even the issuance of bad cheques.

In terms of the fight against drug trafficking, police interventions during the year 2012 resulted in the seizure of 1,885 kg of drugs, 1,290 grams of heroin, 860 grams of cocaine, nearly 1,039 psychotropic tablets, 3,120 capsules of heroin, 296 capsules of cocaine, as well as 118 cars and five mopeds used in drug trafficking operations.

Furthermore, the judicial police services of Tetouan succeeded during the months of January and February 2013 in seizing 602 kg of chira (cannabis resin), 25 grams of heroin, 51 grams of cocaine, 37 kg of kif, and 174 psychotropic tablets.

The judicial police have also proceeded, since the beginning of the current year at the level of the prefecture of Tetouan, to the arrest of 345 individuals who were the subject of search notices at the local, national, and international level for their involvement in various crimes.
