The Great Mosque of Taroudant ravaged by a massive fire

A massive fire broke out on Tuesday morning in the Great Mosque of Taroudant and completely ravaged this historic building, after the fire started in some carpets due to what is believed to be a short circuit, we have learned from local authorities. According to the same source, entire parts of the mosque continue to collapse, as the flames reached the foundations of the building. No human casualties have been reported, however. The civil protection services of Taroudant, supported by firefighters from Agadir, were dispatched to the scene under the supervision of local and provincial authorities. The governor of the province of Taroudant, Fouad Mhamedi, also travelled to the scene of the disaster. Considered the largest mosque of the Saadian dynasty, the Great Mosque of Taroudant was renovated during the reign of Mohamed Cheikh Saadi in the mid-16th century.
