The 2nd medical caravan for solidarity started last Monday in Tarfaya, Daoura, Tah, and Amgriw under the theme "Medicine for solidarity between peoples". This operation offers medical consultations in several specialties. Initiated within the framework of the actions of the Moroccan association Alter Forum, the American association Bridges of Los Angeles, and the Mohammed V-Agdal University, in collaboration with local authorities and representatives of the population, this multidisciplinary medical caravan will see the participation of specialists from the University of UCLA (USA) and doctors belonging to the various services of the hospitals of the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra wilaya, indicates a statement from the organisers. It adds that this operation is part of the efforts of the Alter Forum association aimed at improving access to health services for remote and needy populations, particularly in rural areas. "This new humanitarian and solidarity project, which runs until 4 June, will benefit more than 1,000 patients who will receive free medication offered by the American association Bridges. The services of the caravan will target the most destitute populations in the cities visited and will be closed by the free distribution of medicines and other goods, including prescription glasses to the needy," the statement confides. This caravan will include various medical specialties such as cardiology, urology, ENT, radiology, anaesthesia, resuscitation, gynaecology, internal and general medicine, paediatric surgery, and aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. It is intended as an initiative to strengthen communication and partnership links between Moroccan and foreign associations and an opportunity to provide medical aid to the populations concerned. Let us recall that Alter Forum was created in 2002 by Sahrawi actors to promote the human and cultural potential of the Saharan regions through development and civic engagement. The goal of this association is to foster the growth of a civil and citizen society through, among other things, women's education, training, local development with respect for the environment, learning, and the creation of small businesses. This association also aims to fight against poverty, carry out humanitarian operations in isolated environments, and provide support to social services such as health or education, in the Southern provinces first and everywhere else.
