"The Tan-Tan Moussem, an occasion to celebrate the Hassani cultural component", this is what Fadel Benyaich, president of the Amouggar Foundation and ambassador of Morocco to Spain, affirmed
The Tan-Tan Moussem constitutes an occasion which aims to celebrate the Hassani cultural component, with a view to commemorating its memory and deepening its influence at the local, national, and international levels, affirmed, Saturday evening in Tan-Tan, the president of the Tan-Tan Moussem Foundation (Amouggar), ambassador of Morocco to Spain, Fadel Benyaich.
In an address at the opening of the 11th edition of this cultural event, organised under the High Patronage of H.M. King Mohammed VI, Fadel Benyaich stressed that the Tan-Tan Moussem has positioned itself at the level of cultural events and heritage celebrations, thanks to the international recognition it enjoys, in particular after having been classified in 2005 by UNESCO in the list of oral world heritage, and inscribed in 2008 in the representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
The valorisation of this Moussem by the humanitarian community comes following the recognition it enjoys from nations, as a cultural event celebrated each year by thousands of nomads from the Sahara tribes, which is characterised by the diversity and richness of its cultural heritage, he noted, adding that this celebration is part of the perspective of meeting and communicating with other Sahrawi tribes of North-West Africa, in consecration of the common history that has united them for centuries.
He also made it known that this event, which continues until May 27, constitutes an opportunity to exchange ancestral experiences and renew communication links between participants, as well as an occasion to be entertained through the organisation of concerts and poetic meetings, which contributes to the preservation of Hassani oral traditions.
The opening of this cultural event was marked by a rich and varied artistic programme, notably the organisation of a Fantasia parade, camel parades, and acoustic scenes, hosted by local, national, and international traditional troupes, in the presence in particular of the Minister Delegate to the Minister of the Interior, Cherki Drais, the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Mbarka Bouaida, and the president of the Almouggar Foundation, ambassador of Morocco to Spain, Fadel Benyaich, as well as the Tunisian Minister of Culture and Heritage Preservation, Latifa Lakhdar.
The Tan-Tan Moussem, which this year saw the participation of the Republic of Tunisia as guest of honour and the United Arab Emirates as a major partner, is an annual meeting for thousands of participants, representing more than thirty tribes from the Saharan Morocco and the countries of North-West Africa. A magical moment of festivity and celebration during which the entire nomadic population, guests, and the general public share the diversity and cultural richness of Saharan Morocco.
