Residents march against precariousness

Residents march against precariousness

Residents of several neighbourhoods in Tan Tan have risen up against precariousness and the lack of basic infrastructure.

Neglected in favour of the cities recovered in 1976, the transit city that welcomed thousands of volunteers of the Green March has not experienced the development it deserves.

Tan Tan is, in fact, a city without infrastructure, roads, green spaces, or even a liquid sanitation system. Its residents are forced to pay for cart services to collect household waste in the absence of municipal authorities.

It is therefore to make themselves heard that the residents of Hay Rahma, Tiguirya, and Hay Sahara marched to denounce the abandonment of their neighbourhoods. They also denounce the incompetence of municipal officials.

Mobilised within neighbourhood associations, they organised a sit-in during which they chanted several slogans, notably: "No pavements, the city is a dump".

The municipal council, it is recalled, has for several months scheduled the development and paving of several streets in different neighbourhoods. The associations have constantly reminded them of this through correspondence that has never received a response. It is this deaf ear turned by municipal officials that led these associations to request the intervention and arbitration of the provincial governor, stressing that protest marches will continue until their grievances are taken into consideration.
