When will Masjid Assounna reopen?

When will Masjid Assounna reopen?

Many are wondering if the Assouna mosque will temporarily reopen its doors to welcome worshippers on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. The information on this subject having been neither confirmed nor denied by the officials of the supervisory ministry at the provincial and regional level, gives rise to a situation that appears, to say the least, contradictory with the new

Constitution and, more particularly, with Article 27 which gives citizens the right to access information from the administration. The rehabilitation project of the "Assounna" mosque is, however, the only one whose technical realisation was not entrusted to the "Building" service under the regional directorate of Equipment, as was the case for many other places of worship programmed in the same context, like the Haj Thami, Sidi Abdelkrim, Laarissa, Fokani, and Azib Derai mosques. Located in the centre of the new city, the "Assounna" mosque was closed following a technical control and audit operation, stating the need to restore, maintain, and strengthen the building. However, will this operation, which is certainly on the verge of being completed, allow the prayer hall to be made available to worshippers on an exceptional basis during this month of Ramadan? Having completely changed its look, Masjid Assounna, whose works required an execution period of more than 18 months and a budget of 12 MDH, will become, through its extension, the largest mosque in the city, insofar as its capacity will increase from practically 1,400 to 3,000 worshippers. The one and only problem likely to arise will surely be that of parking spaces. In this regard, a large part of the old car park was used in the actual extension of the structure. According to the opinion of an architect, the solution to this problem does indeed exist. It is enough to transform a paving forming a play park (skating and other sliding sports) located nearby into a car park and green space. Such a solution will even have the effect of putting an end to the ordeal of motorists in need of a parking space.
