The 9th edition of the annual environment event, "the Safi Spring", was launched recently under the theme "My environment and the splendour of my city, a responsibility for all".

The organisation of this edition, which will continue until 5 May (World Environment Day), is part of the actions aimed at protecting the environment and green spaces in Safi, as well as the beautification of several public places in this city.

On the programme for this initiative, organised by the Wilaya of the Doukkala-Abda region and the urban commune of Safi in partnership with public institutions, economic operators and local associations, are workshops and artistic exhibitions revolving around the theme of the environment.

Among the actions also planned are awareness campaigns for residents and pupils of schools to encourage them to take part in the various environmental projects scheduled for this occasion, including painting facades and maintaining gardens.

Particular interest will thus be given to numerous gardens and public squares. Also, campaigns to collect plastic bags and actions to uproot parasitic plants, reforestation and tree planting will be carried out as part of the "Safi Spring 2014".

Now an annual event, the "Safi Spring" reflects an awareness of the need to protect the environment, maintain green spaces and preserve public hygiene, the aesthetics of the city and its beauty within the framework of coordination between all the actors concerned.

Significant logistical and supervisory resources will be mobilised for the 2014 edition, notably by the Wilaya of the Doukkala-Abda region, the urban commune of Safi, the regional directorate of water and forests and the fight against desertification, the OCP Group and private partners.
