Rabat – The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs organised, on Thursday evening at the Mohammed VI Institute for the Training of Imams, Morchidines and Morchidates, a religious Ramadan evening in tribute to the memorisers of the Holy Quran, as part of the “Night of the Holy Quran”.
This annual event, intended to celebrate the Holy Quran on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan, was punctuated by recitations of the Holy Book, as well as a tribute to a galaxy of memorisers and all those who have made a notable contribution in terms of memorisation, declamation, and chanting of the Holy Quran.
Speaking on this occasion, the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, Ahmed Toufiq, stressed that the organisation of this Quranic event, under the High Patronage of HM the King, Amir Al-Mouminine, reflects the importance given to the Holy Quran in Morocco.
This event, celebrated since 2004, aims to consolidate the traditions of memorisation and declamation of the Holy Quran, to promote the Moroccan method of recitation, and to pay tribute to the various servants of the Holy Quran, he noted, adding that the ministry continues its efforts to support and rehabilitate Quranic schools (katatibs), with more than 12,000 establishments, employing 14,000 teachers and benefiting more than 400,000 students.
The minister noted that his department is working on the recovery of the educational system for memorisers of the Holy Quran, through traditional education and the development of Quranic study programmes at Al Quaraouiyine University, adding that full memorisation of the Holy Quran will henceforth be a prerequisite for joining Dar El Hadith El Hassania, and that master's and doctoral cycles will be created at the Mohammed VI Institute for Quranic Readings and Studies.
Furthermore, Mr. Toufiq highlighted the role of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Edition of the Holy Quran, which distributed 500,000 copies of the Mohammadi Quran this year, including copies intended for numerous government institutions, consulates, and several African countries, adding that the ministry is currently working on the edition of the Moroccan Quran in local African languages, notably with a view to making it accessible to the greatest number of people.
For his part, the journalist at the Mohammed VI Radio for the Holy Quran, Kaddouri El Hachmi, expressed his great pride for the tribute he received, thanks to the great success of his radio programme “A Day with a Reciter”, which has reached many Moroccan families, stressing that winning a prize related to the Holy Book is an “unequalled feeling”.
He made it known that his programme aims to highlight reciters, whether they are young beginners or people with long experience in this field, while sharing their journeys to present inspiring models and figures to the young generations, thus inciting them to join the ranks of Quran memorisers.
For his part, the calligrapher Mohamed El Asri, who received a tribute for his contribution with the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Edition of the Holy Quran to the writing of the Quran for the visually impaired, stressed that writing the Holy Quran represents an immense honour for any calligrapher.
He also added that these initiatives encourage young generations to take an interest in the arts of Arabic calligraphy, particularly in the field of writing the Holy Quran according to traditional rules.
During this evening, tributes were also paid to several people, notably calligraphers, teachers, experts in the field, and memorisers, some of whom are in situations of disability, for their rich contributions to the radiance of the Holy Quran.
