Rabat – The 3rd edition of the “Treasures of Moroccan Traditional Arts” program was launched, Thursday in Rabat, during a meeting of the steering committee of the said program, held under the chairmanship of the Secretary of State in charge of Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, Lahcen Essaadi.
On this occasion, Mr. Essaadi emphasized that this program is part of the strategy of the Secretariat of State aimed at preserving national handicraft trades threatened with disappearance, in partnership with UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), indicating that Morocco is full of artisanal treasures requiring considerable efforts for their preservation.
He also specified that the “Treasures of Moroccan Traditional Arts” program has made it possible to identify 17 artisans who are carriers of national heritage, who have provided training to more than 150 young people in handicraft trades threatened with disappearance.
Furthermore, the Secretary of State indicated that this meeting, which comes following the first two successful editions of this “unprecedented program”, aims to define the contours of the third edition which will open up to other trades with a view to protecting them from disappearance.
The 2025-2026 edition, he maintained, will be crowned with success and will give a new impetus to this dynamic of safeguarding national handicrafts.
For his part, the director of the UNESCO office for the Maghreb, Eric Falt, welcomed, in a statement to MAP, the “significant results” obtained so far by the “Treasures of Moroccan Traditional Arts” program, expressing UNESCO's pride in contributing to this unique project of its kind.
The said project, he added, will continue its progress with the same dynamic, specifying that, within the framework of this third edition, ten new handicraft trades will be selected to train a new class of 100 young people.
Set up by the Secretariat of State in charge of Handicrafts and Social and Solidarity Economy, in partnership with UNESCO, the “Treasures of Moroccan Traditional Arts” program aims to preserve the know-how and skills related to handicraft trades threatened with disappearance.
It is based on three main axes, namely, “documentation through the transcription of trades”, “transmission of know-how through training” and “promotion of Moroccan handicrafts and the valorization of the Human”.
