The Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Youssef Amrani, held talks, Thursday in Rabat, with the rapporteur of the Committee on Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Liliane Maury Pasquier, on the latest developments in the national cause. "This interview was an opportunity to review the latest developments that the national cause has known," declared Amrani to the press at the end of this interview. During this meeting, Amrani highlighted the tireless action of H.M. King Mohammed VI for the defence of the national cause, whose personal commitment was fundamental to the success of resolution 2099 of the Security Council. Indeed, noted the minister, "this resolution denotes a UN recognition of the credible efforts deployed by Morocco for the promotion and protection of human rights, just as it comes to consecrate its proactive commitment to the strengthening of the rule of law". This resolution, he said, also reaffirms the pre-eminence of the Moroccan autonomy initiative and "shows the appreciation of the SC for the serious efforts made by Morocco, to find a definitive way out of this artificial dispute, within the framework of a political solution based on realism and the spirit of compromise". Furthermore, the two parties welcomed the excellence of the relations linking Morocco to the Council of Europe, a cooperation boosted by the Advanced Status of Morocco with the European Union and which is reflected in particular by an increasing involvement of all Moroccan actors, argued Amrani. The minister delegate specified, in this regard, that the "optimal rapprochement of Morocco to the standards and values promoted by the Council of Europe fits perfectly with the enlightened vision of H.M. King Mohammed VI as well as with the policy of openness, modernisation and consolidation of good governance, constantly advocated by the Kingdom". Arriving Tuesday evening in Morocco, Liliane Maury Pasquier held a meeting at the headquarters of MINURSO and had talks with local actors in the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region, just as she had a series of meetings with government officials. The visit to Morocco of Liliane Maury Pasquier is part of the preparation of her report on the parliamentary contribution to the resolution of the Sahara conflict.
