Known for his performances and successful music videos, the Lebanese singer and actor will perform at the opening of the 12th edition of the Mawazine-Rhythms of the World Festival.
An event highly anticipated by the many fans of the Arab star who will not miss this evening, which the organisers announce will be colourful, under any pretext. Well known to the Moroccan public, who appreciate his repertoire of nearly 600 songs written and composed by renowned authors of the Arab world and his presence, Walid Toufic will give a concert on Friday 24 May on the Nahda stage.
A wonderful opportunity for festival-goers who will thus be able to applaud and dance to the notes of this generous artist, considered one of the most popular singers in the Arab world. And who had as his first music teacher Amin Azar, a blind artist.
The beginnings in music were not so easy for this child of Tripoli who would later settle in the residential neighbourhood of Ibn Rashd Street located in the west of Beirut. To pay for his lute lessons, Walid had to bend over backwards to find small jobs that could help him satisfy his passion.
Luck smiled on him when he participated, in 1973, in the famous Lebanese television show entitled "Studio El Fan". A golden opportunity that would greatly contribute to revealing his talents.
The least we can say is that his appearance on this unexpected stage would open the doors to an artistic career that would later prove to be rich and long. It must be said that his brilliant interpretation of the song "Ouyoun Bahia" on the media pleasantly surprised everyone, including many critics who saw in him a future star of Arab music.
We know the rest, and thanks to titles such as "Ehna El Tayibin" and "Sinin Ahbab", which have enjoyed real popularity with the public, Walid Toufic seduces more fans beyond what he had hoped for. His popularity is such that he is invited to perform at numerous events: he then sets off to conquer new stages, notably in Carthage in Tunisia, but also in Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Morocco, where he receives a warm welcome from the public each time. And he gratifies the public with his many songs dealing with "joyful themes and always linked to love", as the organisers specify.
An exceptional singer who has spent the greater part of his career in Egypt, Walid Toufic also distinguishes himself in cinema as an actor.
Indeed, while building a career in music, the Lebanese artist launched himself into the seventh art and appeared in a dozen big-budget films. And he played various roles alongside renowned stars like Farid El Atrache, Hoda Soltan, Maryam Fakhreddin, Madiha Yousri and Samir Ghanem. The public will also appreciate him in other characters alongside Layla Alawi, Said Saleh, Raghda, Athar El Hakim and Dureid Lahham, among others.
An unmissable event on the Moroccan and international music scene, the Mawazine-Rhythms of the World Festival is organised by the Maroc Cultures Association "which has set itself the main mission of guaranteeing the public of the Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaër region a cultural and artistic animation of a professional level worthy of the capital of the Kingdom".
