Heavy rainfall hit the Oriental region on the night from Monday to Tuesday. The city of Oujda suffered from floods that affected some disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the suburbs.
According to testimonies from residents of the Hay Zerga neighbourhood in the Sidi Yahia area, many houses were invaded by water and the roofs of about ten of them reportedly collapsed, fortunately without causing any casualties. The affected residents expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of infrastructure and denounced the absence of a liquid sanitation network in their neighbourhood yesterday during a sit-in in front of the Oujda prefecture.
The heavy rainfall that the Oriental region is experiencing is due to the presence of a very active depression arriving from Europe.
