Speaking during a communication meeting dedicated to presenting the results of the UN Commission meetings, held from 10 to 21 March in New York, as well as certain aspects of the sector's action plan in the field of empowering girls and women, Ms. Ben Yahia stressed that the Kingdom's participation had aroused keen interest from the international community.
This interest, she continued, is explained by the uniqueness of the Moroccan experience, which is capable of reconciling its national specificities with its international commitments, as well as by the importance of the policies and programmes adopted in favour of women and girls.
In this sense, the Minister noted that several structural projects had been praised, notably that of social protection, which is directly linked to the empowerment of women, as well as programmes aimed at strengthening employment through the promotion of female entrepreneurship and access to financing, in addition to the promotion of education and training for girls in rural areas, and the creation of social protection establishments (programmes to support schooling, education, and infrastructure strengthening), particularly in vulnerable regions.
This event also made it possible to highlight the progress of the Moroccan experience, both on the legislative level, with notable and progressive progress via the revision of discriminatory provisions and the adoption of laws promoting gender equality, and on the institutional level through the creation of constitutional bodies, which play a key role in supporting public policies, she specified, while highlighting the strengthening of the role of civil society as a major actor in improving public policies in this area.
On the other hand, Ms. Ben Yahia mentioned the interest shown by the international community in the project to revise the Family Code, noting in this regard that the commission had made a point of praising the High Solicitude that His Majesty King Mohammed VI continues to surround this reform project with, which has led to major amendment proposals.
Addressing the elements of the sectoral action plan regarding the empowerment of girls and women, the Minister indicated that her department is currently working on examining the recommendations addressed to Morocco for the protection of the rights of women and girls, as well as presenting reports on the implementation of several international plans, the most important of which is the Beijing Platform for Action, alongside the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Ministry is working on implementing a new version of the "Tamayuz" Prize dedicated to media institutions and media professionals in the field of gender equality, in order to further highlight their contribution to the efforts of the various actors.
This meeting was marked by the screening of a video sequence retracing the participation of the Moroccan delegation in the 69th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69).
Also organised in celebration of International Women's Day, which this year coincides with the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Platform for Action, this meeting was an opportunity to pay tribute to several active women for their remarkable journeys in defending women's rights and improving their conditions.
