The Constitutional Court has declared the vacancy of the seat previously held by Abbas El Meghari, who was elected as a member of the House of Representatives for the Meknes electoral district (Meknes Prefecture), calling upon the candidate whose name appears on the relevant nomination list, following the last elected member, to fill the vacant seat.
In its decision numbered 247/24 W.B., dated the 9th of this December, the Constitutional Court relied on the letter registered at its General Secretariat on December 3, 2024, referred to it by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, in which he informed the Court that Abbas El Meghari, a member of the House of Representatives, had submitted his resignation from his membership in this council.
The same court also relied on the Kingdom's Constitution and Organic Law No. 006.13 related to the Constitutional Court, in addition to Organic Law No. 27.11 related to the House of Representatives, as well as the internal regulations of the same council, noting that the individual concerned was in a state of incompatibility between his membership in the House of Representatives and his representative responsibility as President of the Meknes Communal Council, to which he was elected on November 1, 2024.
It is worth noting that El Meghari, a member of the Constitutional Union party, succeeded last November in winning the presidency of the Meknes Communal Council during the session held to elect the president, succeeding Jawad Bahji, of the National Rally of Independents party, who resigned from his position under pressure from his opponents and colleagues in the party.
The person concerned by the Constitutional Court's decision held, during the first half of the government term, the position of First Deputy to the President of the Ismaili Capital's Communal Council, in addition to his position as a member of the House of Representatives, as well as his position as President of the Moroccan-Kuwaiti Parliamentary Friendship Group.
