Marrakech hosts the 14th edition of the International General Medicine Fair
The Marrakech Congress Palace is hosting the 14th edition of the International General Medicine Fair from 19 to 21 June 2025, organised in parallel with the 10th edition of the African Congress of Practical General Medicine, as well as the 24th National Days of the Moroccan Association of Sonographers (AMECHO).

This event is organised by AMECHO, a central player in the field of general medicine, which gives this scientific event a high-level dimension. It is a space for discussion around the latest scientific and medical advances in public health, in the presence of doctors, specialists, stakeholders, and health professionals from Morocco, Africa, and several countries around the world.

On this occasion, Dr Abdelatif Achibet, president of AMECHO, emphasised that the main objective of this annual meeting is to support the general practitioner in their daily practice by providing them with concrete tools and updated knowledge, while opening up to the innovations of tomorrow.

He specified that a rich programme has been planned, including 15 workshops, eight multidisciplinary sessions focused on the most frequent diseases in general medicine, as well as eight simulation workshops. The role of artificial intelligence and digitisation in the health sector will also be highlighted.

Dr Achibet added that this scientific event organised in the Ochre City will allow for highlighting the importance of ultrasound in medical practice, which has become an indispensable tool for diagnosis and treatment. He thus called for a more advanced use of this technique thanks to new technologies, and for the training of general practitioners to complement clinical examination.

For his part, Moulay Said Afif, president of the fair, affirmed that the scientific committee has ensured the development of a rich programme for this event, which aims to be both a health and diplomatic showcase. He highlighted the progress made by Morocco in the health sector, as well as the efforts made to strengthen and improve the health system, by guaranteeing territorial equity and equitable access to care for all citizens.

Moulay Said Afif, honorary president of the congress and president of the Moroccan Society of Medical Sciences – which brings together 54 scientific associations in different medical specialties – emphasised the importance of prevention in public health. He recalled that this choice is motivated by the high cost, both in terms of health and finance, of chronic diseases. He notably mentioned their impact on patients, their quality of life, their purchasing power, as well as on social security funds.

Indeed, 3% of patients suffering from chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, cancers, kidney diseases, cardiovascular diseases, etc., consume 52% of social fund expenditures, without forgetting the out-of-pocket expenses borne by patients for each medical file. This demonstrates the urgency of a strengthened preventive health policy.

The fair's programme includes a series of conferences and workshops led by Moroccan and international doctors and experts. Among the themes addressed: the importance of vaccination to prevent infectious diseases, nutrition from birth to old age, with a particular focus on the elderly and pathologies associated with this age group. Other current topics will also be addressed, such as diabetes, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, asthma, pain management, and many other crucial issues for the health sector.
