4 million tourists welcomed by Marrakech in 2024

According to Hamid Bentahar, president of the CRT Marrakech-Safi, the performance achieved in 2024 testifies to the strong attractiveness of the destination as well as the positive dynamic of the sector.

Marrakech confirms its positioning as a flagship destination for tourism. The Ochre City recorded a historic record in 2024, thus welcoming 4 million visitors during the year 2024. This positive assessment was drawn up on Friday by Hamid Bentahar, president of the Regional Tourism Council (CRT) of Marrakech-Safi, during the regional tour of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT). Among the indicators noted, we cite the achievement of more than 12 million overnight stays in the region as well as an average occupancy rate exceeding 72%. These figures testify, according to Mr. Bentaher, to the strong attractiveness of the destination as well as the positive dynamic of the sector. "These exceptional performances reflect the joint efforts of public and private actors for the promotion of Marrakech as a destination of choice on a global scale," he indicated. And to specify that "these results are a source of collective pride, but they must above all inspire us to strengthen our efforts to position Marrakech as an unmissable and sustainable destination, like the great world tourist capitals." The president of the CRT emphasized, in this regard, that the Ochre City must capitalize on this strategic momentum to continue to accelerate its competitiveness while being part of a logic of sustainable development. For his part, Achraf Fayda, General Manager of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), insisted on the importance of an inclusive territorial approach, taking into account the potential that abounds in the different provinces of the Marrakech-Safi region. In this context, he reaffirmed the ONMT's commitment to accompany Marrakech in this dynamic of market diversification, emphasizing that this strategy is essential to consolidate the gains and maintain the pace of growth. This meeting made it possible to define areas of collaboration between the CRT of Marrakech-Safi, the ONMT, and the professionals of the sector. The participants thus committed to joining forces to keep Marrakech on an upward trajectory, with the goal of making 2025 an even more memorable year.
It should be noted that Marrakech marks the first stage of the ONMT's tour in the different regions of the Kingdom. This initiative, led with the support of the National Tourism Confederation, aims to consolidate relations with professionals, discuss the opportunities and challenges of the sector, and align efforts to promote the Morocco destination on a national and international scale. During this tour, the ONMT will present its strategic orientations and future actions for each region to support operators in their development. This direct dialogue will also make it possible to collect the needs and proposals of professionals in order to best adapt initiatives to local realities.
It will notably be a question, during these meetings, of the strategic plan of the sector, marketing and commercial devices in priority markets to ensure optimal and sustainable growth for the twelve regions, each according to the specificities and potential it offers.
