The "Sun Festival" comes to the Ochre City

The "Sun Festival" comes to the Ochre City

Placed under the High Patronage of H.M. King Mohammed VI and initiated by the "Marock'Jeunes" Association, this new edition of the International Festival of Contemporary Cultures puts culture and the promotion of youth in the spotlight, in a community spirit of union and sharing around diversified socio-cultural activities. After a 2013 edition that was both astonishing and crowned with success, the organisers aim to make this event a moment of anthology for modern cultures and to further consolidate its national and international reputation. A flagship cultural event of the city of Marrakech, the Sun Festival is spread over a week of entertainment dedicated to youth through, in particular, contemporary art events, conferences, artistic residencies, concerts and exhibitions of visual arts and photography. In a spirit of diversity and openness to the international scene, the Sun Festival will welcome a host of artists from the four corners of the world. Between music, visual and digital arts, designers and graffiti artists, this edition promises to be "high-voltage" and promises to be a subtle blend of traditionalism and musical modernism in a context of exchange and sharing, in the eyes of its initiators. Through an original programme focused on modern and contemporary cultures, from here and elsewhere, this large-scale event intends to transform the Ochre City into a large stage, as evidenced by the choice of sites to host the various activities: French Institute (IFM), Place du 16 Novembre, Dar Takafa of Daoudiate, Royal Theatre and Dar Denise Masson.

As a prelude to this event, which combines the traditional with the modern and which aims to be an immersion in the world of new urban cultures, the "Marock'Jeunes" Association organised, from 24 to 28 June, the "Sun Fest'Lab" dedicated to the discovery and supervision of young talents through workshops, master classes and conferences.

This newcomer, perceived as a real laboratory for talent, aims to help young people discover the different stages of artistic production, while introducing them to new contemporary art techniques.
