The splendour of Empires comes to Marrakech

The splendour of Empires comes to Marrakech

The unmissable event of Moroccan haute couture, which was held on Saturday evening in Marrakech, reinforces the ties uniting ancestral Moroccan arts with the fashion trends of the moment. This year, 17 selected stylists were invited to draw their inspiration from ancestral empires. Each of the Moroccan stylists who took part in this event presented 7 caftans to the public, fruits of different cultures and influences, highlighted by these fashion creators who competed in creative genius. Placed under the banner of “Splendours of Empires”, this edition of Caftan highlighted the riches of the great civilisations that have marked History. The Roman, Babylonian, Macedonian, Russian, Chinese, Ottoman, Persian, Egyptian empires... were invited to Caftan in the context of a show where fashion shows and artistic tableaux alternated. From culture to fashion, through cross-breeding, the alphabet, the monetary system, goldsmithing, or even beauty rituals, the heritage bequeathed to us by the great empires and some of their legendary figures is very rich. It is precisely from this inexhaustible source that the 17 stylists selected this year drew their inspiration. Meryem Boussikouk, Maria Ouazzani Chahdi, Samira Mhaidi Knouzi, Meriem Belkhayat, Amina Boussayri, Roméo, Safae Ibrahimi, Nisrine Ezzaki Bakkali, Kacem Sahl, Siham El Habti, Nabil Dahani, Ihsanne Ghailane, Zineb Lyoubi, Fouzia Naciri, Khadija El Houjouji... Each of our talented stylists took up the challenge of presenting during the show a collection of caftans where the splendours of the empires shine through. Two young talents are added to this list of stylists: Amal Belcaïd and Nabila Chihab. This year again, the creators competed in ingenuity by drawing inspiration from these feminine silhouettes of another time through rich palettes of colours, precious fabrics, the elegance of the cuts, finely chiselled accessories... The outfits with which the models were adorned, some of which were hand-embroidered with gold thread and encrusted with crystal stones, surprised in particular by their quality, the sublime marriage of colours, and their brilliance.

An exceptional show that paid tribute this year again to the talent of our creators, to the richness of our cultural heritage, and to the cross-breeding of cultures. Moroccan artists Ghani Kabbaj, Abdelhafid Douzi, and Ahmed Soultan were also part of the party during this edition.

“Caftan”, this unmissable event of Moroccan haute couture, initiated by the magazine “Femmes du Maroc”, therefore continues on its merry way by highlighting this traditional Moroccan garment and its new trends and by paying tribute to the genius and creativity of the stylists, as well as to the work of Moroccan couturiers, weavers, tailors, and goldsmiths.
