Book festival in Laâyoune

From 22 to 27 November, the city of Laâyoune hosted the 4th edition of the Regional Book Fair in order to encourage reading in this region of the Kingdom through a programme rich in activities.

"Reading, a portal to knowledge and a pillar for sustainable development", such is the theme of this edition organised by the regional directorate of culture in partnership with the Wilaya of the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region, the Laâyoune Foundation for Education and Cultural and Sports Animation, and the Regional Academy of Education and Training (AREF), and saw the participation of about thirty exhibitors representing Moroccan publishing houses, cultural and academic establishments, and associations active in the field of culture.

According to the organising committee, this event aims to shed light on the importance of books and reading and to highlight the cultural richness and diversity of the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region and seeks to become an unmissable annual meeting for bringing together writers, readers, and people interested in cultural matters at the level of this region. This event provides local readers with a wide choice of new publications and constitutes an opportunity for readers in the region to meet and exchange with them and to be up to date with the latest news from the world of publishing.

The programme for this event was hosted by a galaxy of writers and intellectuals from this region and included presentation and signing ceremonies for several works, in particular the latest publications by local writers. Poetry workshops were scheduled during this event under the supervision of poets from the Edafa Forum for the benefit of students in the region.

Also on the agenda were seminars and scientific meetings, presentations of theatre plays for children and adults, and training workshops for children in the art of storytelling, drawing, and painting.

The inauguration of the fair was carried out by an official delegation chaired by Hamid Charîi, governor in charge of the general secretariat of the Wilaya of Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra, the heads of external services, and the local associative fabric.
