A large number of projects for environmental protection will see the light of day in the Laâyoune region. Thus, a green belt will come to embellish the north of Laâyoune over an area of approximately 75 hectares. The latter required an amount of 2.91 million DH. It will result in the planting of trees and a drip irrigation system. To protect this area, a fence will be built and decorated with a sports circuit. The development of a space for children is also planned. Furthermore, a study for the implementation of a drip irrigation system has been carried out. As have technical studies for the qualification of the entertainment space, planned near the green belt during the year 2012 and for the 2013-2015 period. These projects were launched by the High Commission for Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification and will be carried out in collaboration with the city's municipal council and the wilaya of the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia El Hamra region. They are intended to protect the city against sand winds and silting, safeguard its infrastructure, and create recreational spaces for the urban population. Another project will be carried out in Hay Al Kassam in Laâyoune. It focuses on the fight against silting for a total amount of 4 million DH, of which nearly 3.4 million is devoted to planting trees over an area of 45 hectares. In this context, a convention was signed between the HCEFLCD and the Talh Association for Water and the Environment in Laâyoune. It will define the general framework of partnership and cooperation between the two parties in the fields of preservation and development of natural resources in the Southern provinces in general and more particularly in the Laâyoune-Boujdour-Sakia-El Hamra region, through projects and programmes. Parallel to the creation of this belt, other tree planting and green space maintenance actions are being carried out inside the city, particularly in public squares to strengthen the fight against the advance of sands and contribute to the improvement of the living environment of the local populations.
