The environmental issue took centre stage in Khénifra during the month that has just ended, through the organization of a series of events focused on this important theme. Is it a pure coincidence or coordination between the various organizers of these events and meetings to draw attention to the environmental situation at the city level? For some organizers, it is because of its importance that the environmental issue was chosen as the central theme of these various events. In a region like Khénifra, which is teeming with natural potential and significant environmental wealth, this issue can only be established as a priority, they added. In this perspective, and in harmony with its mission to contribute to shedding light on several issues related to daily life and to dedicate its presence and proximity to the various concerns of citizens, the local council of Ulema opted this year for the theme "The Sunnah and the environmental issue" for its eighth Hadith meeting (May 14-15). This initiative thus reflects the concern of the Ulema institution to contribute to the approach to this issue and to efforts aimed at protecting the environment, through the programming of a series of presentations, awareness-raising actions, and interventions dealing with the various aspects of this problem in relation to the Sunnah. On the other hand, the month that has just ended was marked by a field visit (May 19-20) by the Minister Delegate to the Minister of Energy, Mines, Water and the Environment, in charge of the environment, Hakima El Haite, to learn about the environmental situation at the local level and examine a practical and integrated solution to the problem of solid waste management at the provincial level. A trip that proved fruitful in that we are moving towards a sustainable and effective solution to this solid waste disposal problem. Given the land issue that is delaying the construction of a new inter-municipal landfill, it was agreed to rehabilitate the current landfill, located in a secondary exclusion zone, which will be equipped with a sorting and treatment unit for waste recovery and, consequently, allow for the operation of the landfill according to best practices for five years. It will also be proceeded with the creation of waste transfer sites to overcome the thorny problems caused by illegal dumps at the level of Mrirt and Aguelmous, which will be the subject of an intervention consisting of upgrading these two sites. For their part, the organizers of the environmental days (May 23-25) opted for the month of May for the holding of the third edition of this event, which constitutes a contribution to raising awareness among the citizens of the city of Zayanes, to promoting awareness of the importance of environmental protection, and to establishing a true environmental culture, particularly among the rising generations. This initiative, now established as an unmissable annual event at the local level, constitutes a platform and a space for debate and exchange of views on the various factors related to the environmental issue, within the framework of a participatory approach aimed at involving the various actors in the development of a vision capable of contributing to the development of environmental matters and ecotourism. This initiative also aims to shed light on and enhance the ecological and natural heritage of the province to make it a locomotive and a lever for local and sustainable development, given the natural potential that the region abounds with. In their main recommendations, the participants in this 3rd edition stressed the need to put in place a suitable framework for the establishment of a partnership based on consultation and defining the role and missions of each stakeholder in this field.
