Kenitra: Inauguration of a new seaweed production and processing line
A new production line dedicated to the processing of seaweed and the production of agar-agar belonging to the company Setexam was inaugurated, Wednesday in Kenitra, for an investment of 60 million dirhams.

This project, the launch of which was given in the presence of the Secretary of State in charge of Maritime Fisheries, Zakia Driouich, aims to offer an innovative solution to reduce the use of chemical pesticides.

This unit is the only one in Morocco to produce agar-agar, declared Mrs. Driouich to the press, noting that the Kingdom occupies the 3rd position worldwide after China and Spain in terms of the production of agar-agar, used in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries, reports the MAP.

Thanks to the technologies developed at this industrial unit, foliar fertilizers intended for organic farming will be produced, allowing for the elimination of chemical pesticides, she stressed.

For his part, the director of Setexam, Rachid Lebbar, stressed the importance of agar-agar which can be used in the production of antibiotics.

A high-quality product, agar-agar is marketed in international markets and on all continents, he added.

The extension of this unit, which generates through its activities 300 jobs on site and 10,000 seaweed collectors, will also strengthen the industrial fabric in the region.

The company Setexam is considered one of the world leaders in the production of agar-agar in the markets of Japan, the United States of America, the United Kingdom and France.
