Despite the efforts made by the Ministry of National Education regarding achieving the goals of universalising school transport in remote rural areas, a number of territorial communes are still suffering from daily problems at the level of some community schools; as is the case in the territorial commune of "Ifrane Atlas-Saghir" under the territorial jurisdiction of the Guelmim province.
According to data provided to the Hespress newspaper by an informed local source, a member of the aforementioned commune, "the school transport fleet from which the pupils of the community school and the neighbouring Douars of Ifrane Atlas-Saghir benefit suffers from repeated breakdowns in terms of the mechanical condition of its buses; which has contributed to the pupils being harmed in benefiting from school transport services and doubling their suffering to reach their classrooms in good conditions".
At the end of last week, the director of the Ifrane Atlas-Saghir community school sent a letter to the provincial director of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool and Sports, notifying him of "a delay of a total of 34 pupils in the fifth grade of primary school and 42 pupils in the sixth grade of primary school by about half an hour on Saturday, 28 December 2024", warning in the letter, of which Hespress has a copy, that this delay is due to "the existence of a mechanical breakdown in one of the school transport buses, as the school transport fleet has become operating with only three buses".
Although the local authorities and the Provincial Council of Guelmim had initiated, during the year 2024, the delivery of new buses to all the communes of the province; the newspaper's source pointed out that "internal conflicts within the council and an association in charge of school transport are the reason for the exclusion of the mentioned commune; which makes the pupils victims of the breakdowns of the current fleet of school transport buses", as he put it.
