Lovers of competition and nature will be well served on the occasion of the fifth edition of the International Cedar Marathon "Trail Ifrane", which will take place from 19 to 23 June. Initiated by the "Sport and Nature" association of Ifrane in partnership with the province of Ifrane, the CRT of Meknès-Tafilalet, and the communes of Oued Ifrane, Ain Leuh, and Ifrane, this nature sports event will see this year, according to the organisers, the participation of a large number of both renowned national and international athletes and simple amateurs, passionate about nature and running. The participants will thus have to cover a distance of 88 km, over four stages going up to 2,100 metres in altitude. The race will begin at the foot of the Zaouia d'Oued Ifrane waterfall, passing through Ain Leuh, Moudmane, and Michlifen. With several crossings of cedar woods and mountains, this marathon will also allow participants to improve their endurance in a pleasant competitive setting while discovering the most beautiful landscapes of the Ifrane region. Presided over by Abdelkader Mouaziz, champion of the London (1999 and 2001), New York (2000), and Marrakech (1996/97/99) Marathons, this sports and human event aims in particular at the economic and tourist promotion of the Ifrane region through sport, the promotion in particular of mountain tourism and the popularisation of mountain sports, as well as awareness-raising for the preservation of the natural reservoirs of the Middle Atlas.
