Consultation day: A regional plan for the development of Smara

Consultation day: A regional plan for the development of Smara

The governor of the Smara province, surrounded by elected officials and representatives of various departments and civil society, presided over the proceedings of a consultation day regarding projects that are part of the integrated regional work programme prepared by consultancy firms at the regional inspection of the Guelmim-Smara wilaya, which falls within the framework of the regional equipment and preparation plan.

The development of this plan focused on three essential stages:

It involves a diagnosis of the region's space. This allowed for the definition of essential problems through visits, the holding of meetings, and the execution of additional research in strategically important locations.

The second stage allowed for the determination of project areas defined by the consultancy firms following an approach that falls within the framework of an integrated regional development strategy.

The third stage concerns the presentation of the final analytical estimate and the integrated work programme, which includes 54 projects out of 141 that, after taking into consideration all observations from the various services and partners, will be the subject of a contract between the region and the State.

During the inspection's monitoring of these studies, it distributed, in January 2012, a table describing the various projects proposed within the framework of the regional plan. These tables, which included an appendix explaining the drafting of the integrated regional work plan, were sent to all partners (wilaya, provinces, and external services) for study, observations, and opinions regarding the proposed projects.

It should be noted that this meeting follows a recommendation from the wali and the president of the Regional Council, during the holding of the regional council on 22 November.
