Fitness for all

Fitness for all

After Dakhla in 2010 and Boujdour in 2011, it is the turn of the women of Smara to express their aspiration for physical and moral well-being during a special weekend, on the occasion of a meeting initiated by the Royal Moroccan Federation of Aerobics and Fitness Sports in partnership with the Agency for Economic and Social Development of the Southern Provinces, the province of Smara, the youth and sports delegation, the health delegation, and the Moroccan Association for Health and Nutrition Education. "With the aim of raising awareness among women in the southern provinces about the practice of sport and a healthy and balanced diet, the Royal Moroccan Federation of Aerobics and Fitness Sports has created an adapted sporting event, in order to fight against overweight among women. Obesity which is part of the standards of femininity and beauty of the region and which, unfortunately, has a merciless impact on the health of these women, with a single leitmotif: physical and moral well-being," explains a press release from the organisers.

The programme provides for basic aerobics classes, nutrition and dietetics advice sessions, a body-walking session on the outskirts of the city, a space for measuring weight and height for the benefit of women, and the delivery of personalised advice to each one. The objective is to raise awareness of the importance of practising a sporting activity and healthy nutrition in daily balance and in the prevention of certain diseases, particularly among women, some of whom from this province suffer from the problem of obesity, as well as encouraging the practice of sport among Sahrawi Moroccan women. This event is also part of the calendar set by the Federation aimed at promoting aerobics and fitness sports throughout all the regions of the Kingdom and raising them to an international level. Recalling that the Royal Moroccan Federation of Aerobics and Fitness Sports sets itself the objectives of introducing fitness into schools, opening clubs in disadvantaged neighbourhoods and organising competitions in these clubs in order to discover future champions capable of representing Morocco in international competitions. This federation also organises annually at the level of the southern provinces the Green March breakdance cup with the participation of young people from clubs from all over the Kingdom.
