"Solidarity tourism, a locomotive for the promotion of the situation of women in oases" is the theme of the first edition of the solidarity market week of the Mahjhoul route in Errachidia, organised until 18 April at the initiative of the Oasis Tafilalet Programme (POT). This event, organised in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Agency for Women (UN-Women), aims to promote the ecotourism product of the Majhoul route, the valorisation and commercialisation of craft and industrial products of about thirty associations active in the Tafilalet region, particularly in this period marked by the rise in tourist activity. In a statement to MAP, the POT coordinator, Brahim Jaâfar, indicated that this event constitutes an opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of the local product in the economic fabric of the region and its role in improving the living conditions of local populations, particularly women. According to Jaâfar, the Majhoul route constitutes a hub for ecotourism at the regional level, a lever for local development, and one of the tourist destinations experiencing growing influx. This route, he added, has become able to contribute to the promotion of sustainable tourism, especially after the renewal of its reception infrastructures while ensuring respect for environmental standards and the rational and sustainable exploitation of the natural resources that the Tafilalet oases abound with, he explained. And to let it be known that the Tafilalet oasis programme will proceed on this occasion to the launch of an electronic site to allow visitors to better know the tourist destinations at the province level. The programme of this first edition includes awareness-raising and capacity-building workshops for actors in the field of ecotourism, focusing essentially on solidarity trade, as well as a round table around the environmental charter of the Tafilalet oases. This event is organised in collaboration with the Errachidia province, the provincial tourism delegation, the rural commune of high Ferkla, and the Tafilalet ecotourism promoters association.
