El Jadida awarded the "Blue Flag" label

El Jadida awarded the "Blue Flag" label

The "Blue Flag" eco-label has been awarded to 25 beaches out of the 74 registered this year in the national "Clean Beaches" programme, indicates a statement from the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection.

This label is awarded jointly by the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection, under the presidency of HRH Princess Lalla Hasnaa, and the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in recognition of the actions implemented by the communes, the concerned administrations, and the economic partners of the Mohammed VI Foundation for Environmental Protection to meet international standards.

The beaches concerned are Achakar (Tangier - Asilah), Aglou Sidi Moussa (Tiznit), Arekmane (Nador), Asilah, Ba-Kacem (Tangier-Asilah), Bouznika, El Jadida, El Moussafir (Dakhla), Essaouira, Fnideq, Foum Loued (Laâyoune), Haouzia, Imintourga (Mirleft), Mdiq, Mme Choual (Ain Diab Extension), Oualidia, Oued Laou (Tétouan), Oum Labouir (Dakhla), Safi, Saidia, Sidi Rahal, Skhirate, Sol (Tangier - Asilah), Souria Lkdima (Safi), and the Saidia Tourist Station, specifies the statement.

The 2013 edition was characterised by the labelling of a 2nd beach in Dakhla, namely El Moussafir. Obtaining the 'Blue Flag' is dependent on the compliance of beach development and management with criteria to be respected concerning the general environment, water management, waste management, and environmental education.

Since 2002, this programme, supported by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), and the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), has been managed by the Foundation. It has experienced a notable evolution supported by the progress of the national "Clean Beaches" programme. The ultimate goal is to label as many beaches as possible in order to equip the national seaside heritage with the best international standards.
