Social initiative of the United Arab Emirates

On the occasion of the month of Ramadan, the embassy of the United Arab Emirates, the Cabinet of His Highness the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in Rabat, and Sheikh M'hamed Ben Zayed Al Nahyan donated various basic necessities to the most underprivileged strata of Doukkala.
Social initiative of the United Arab Emirates

It was the president of the Kouassems Falconers Association of Ouled Frej in Doukkala, Mohammed El Ghazouani, and his brother Si Ahmed El Ghazouani who were in charge of the food distribution operation in the provinces of El Jadida and Sidi Bennour. This initiative, commendable in more ways than one, which is in its sixth consecutive year, has reached hundreds of needy families and people with disabilities or in difficult situations in different neighbourhoods of El Jadida and Azemmour, and especially several regions of the rural world, where the inhabitants concerned by this donation were deeply touched by the nobility of the Emiratis' gesture.

In his speech for the occasion, Mohammed El Ghazouani indicated that "the United Arab Emirates and the Emirate of Abu Dhabi remained a model of cooperation for Morocco in all fields" before thanking "the embassy of the United Arab Emirates, the Cabinet of His Highness the Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in Rabat, and Sheikh M'hamed Ben Zayed Al Nahyan for his regular support to needy families and people with disabilities or in difficult situations." He also assured the generous donors that all measures had been taken to ensure that the products were effectively made available to the underprivileged. Thus, more than 60 tonnes of basic food products, including bags of flour, sugar, oil, powdered milk, honey, dates, rice, lentils, semolina, chickpeas, tea, tomato paste, coffee, were made available to a committee of volunteers, who have ensured the smooth running of this vast solidarity and humanitarian action since the beginning of the month of Ramadan. As for the city of El Jadida, the action was directed towards the underprivileged families of the Cité Portugaise, Sid Daoui, and Sidi Moussa neighbourhoods, in addition to the widows of fishermen from the province's ports, retired fishermen in difficult situations, people practising artisanal fishing along the entire coast of the province, as well as the residents, employees, and cleaning staff of the El Jadida home for the elderly. Regarding the rural environment, the operation extended to the underprivileged residing in several communes, notably that of Moulay Abdallah, where donations of food products were granted to the Chorfas of Saint Moulay Abdallah, the disadvantaged of Douar Al Bahhara and those of Douar Souani, as well as the commune of Ouled Aïssa, where the operation concerned all the inhabitants of Douar Laâouamra, as well as the boatmen of Mrizika beach. As for the Lekouassem commune of Ouled Frej, donations were attributed to the inhabitants of Douar Smaâla, Douar Mohammadine, Douar Laâtamna, the students of the Quranic school of Zaouiat Moulay Tahar, in addition to the donations that were reserved for the 11 highly underprivileged families of Douar Lamgharat. The commune of Ouled Aïssa was also targeted by donations that were made at the level of Douar Chraride.

Exemplary cooperation

In the 1980s, the late Sheikh Zayed gave his instructions for economic cooperation with Morocco to be made a priority. And that is how the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) invested in the fishing, banking, cement, and tourism sectors, etc. The Moroccan-Emirati Development Company (SOMED) is also a model of success. Today, the President of the State, HH Sheikh Khalifa Ben Zayed, continues the visionary policy of his father. And, thanks to the excellent relations between the two countries, Morocco has become a privileged commercial partner of the United Arab Emirates. Thus, the volume of investments from the Emirati private sector in Morocco has increased considerably thanks to the efforts made by King Mohammed VI. Similarly, the State of the United Arab Emirates has strongly contributed to the financing of a good number of social or humanitarian projects.
