To the rhythms of the Nights of Ramadan

It is under the aegis of the province of El Jadida and in partnership with the regional directorate of Culture Doukkala-Abda that the French Institute of El Jadida is organising, from 27 July to 2 August, the sixth edition of the cultural and artistic event "The Nights of Ramadan".
To the rhythms of the Nights of Ramadan

Musical evenings open, free of charge, to the general public of the city of El Jadida will be part of the continuity of the province's cultural activities, already marked this year by the second edition of the Jawhara International Festival. Traditionally presented in the magical site of the Portuguese city, on the roof of the cistern, they will take place again this year, for reasons of safety and preservation of heritage, in the Mohammed V park, known for its high attendance and located on the main artery of the city. The artistic line-up for this edition will be rich and varied. A programme where the spiritual will predominate, in response to an increasingly growing demand from fans. "The primary objective of these evenings is to create cultural animation in the city of El Jadida, where nothing happens during Ramadan, while respecting the sacredness of this month and its spiritual atmosphere. Hence a very meticulous choice of artists and groups to offer to the public. Our goal is to offer a diversified musical panorama in order to satisfy all the tastes of the inhabitants of El Jadida," emphasises Said Alibou, head of the cultural service at the French Institute of the city. Like the previous year, the programme will be open to the national and international.

After the success of the first five seasons, highly appreciated by the population during this month of spirituality, sharing, and conviviality, this year will see an innovation since the edition will be integrated into the France-Morocco season and will extend to all French Institutes and Alliances present on the Moroccan Atlantic coast, namely eight cities, for about forty performances. The success of these Nights of Ramadan and the limited number of people who work tirelessly on their organisation are clear proof that one can succeed, by joining everyone's efforts, and create an intelligent artistic programme where the spiritual prevails, Ramadan month obliges. The best testimony to this is the influx of Jdidis during this event. Let us remember that last year, these traditional music and dance events attracted 30,000 people: 7 concerts, 4 dance shows as well as an exhibition of painting and sculpture.
